Simpson, Ernesto
Simpson, Ernesto, drums and percussion; b. Camaguey, Cuba, 10 March 1964.
Simpson graduated from National School of Instructors of Art in Havana (Cuba) 1984. He's the son of Silverio Simpson-Bargallot (trumpet player) and Guillermina Hernandez (retired). He has one brother, Rauliert Simpson (percussionist). He attended a percussion and drums Clinic at the University of Rotterdam (Holland) in 1992. For drums, his principal teachers was at Xavier University - Bogota, Colombia (1995-1997). He took a master class at the University of Miami (2002). He was special guest drummer for jazz concerts at Florida International University. He has played with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Chico Freeman, Carmen McRae, Irene Reed, Michael Brecker, Michael Legrand, Othello Molineaux, Chucho Valdez, Hilario Duran, Dave Grusin and currently tours with Arturo Sandoval. He's married to Nora Martinez.
